Why does your VPN not work for streaming services like Netflix and Hulu.
VPN’s use for streaming services
Many people use VPN’s to get around some restrictions a country may be imposing on their internet. You may be using it to get around the blocking features of streaming services because they don’t have license to stream a certain show or program in that country.
How do the streaming services know you have a VPN on?
The way they do this is they gather all the IP address of these VPN providers and put them on a blacklist. So when you get the message saying you can’t use a VPN then that IP address is blocked . They also can employ more sophisticated techniques. This can include DNS filtering, deep packet inspection and also analyzing traffic patterns of an account.
How to fix the problem
The first way to fix the problem is to change the servers your VPN is located on. These servers can be a different type of VPN such as an Obfuscated VPN or located in another country that the service hasn’t identified yet. If this does not work you can either try a different VPN service or pay for a dedicated IP which will give you all the access you need without the problem of being blacklisted.
However, if your VPN provider is smart they will change their IP addresses constantly which will benefit you as a customer. So when shopping for a VPN make sure you keep an eye-out for this kind of feature. This might come with a more expensive service fee but will be worth it in the end.
